Artist Gallery » Carl Peters
Carl Peters is a nationally renowned impressionistic landscape artist born and raised in Rochester, NY. He lived in Fairport in a cottage he built at age 18 until his death at 83.
Peters was a dedicated naturalist who would spend hours painting at his easel on location (plenair). Whether it was in subfreezing temperatures to capture the still blue shadows cast after an Upstate New York snowfall or waiting for the perfect shadow to be cast on the seaside towns of Gloucester, MA or Rockport, ME, Peters made it his life ambition to bring these moments to his paintings. Peters loved color and nature, and thoroughly enjoyed teaching his students how to recreate the gifts nature gave us.
A graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, formerly known as the Mechanics Art Institute, Peters went on to win numerous awards from several prestigious art institutes including three Hallgarten Prizes from the National Academy of Art. His paintings have been exhibited in New York City, Washington, Detroit, Chicago, and are in the permanent collection of the Memorial Art Gallery and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.
